Industry update: MSC launches Seafood Insight

As part of its awards programme for 2014, the Marine Stewardship Council UK kicks off Seafood Insight, a new series of interviews with thought leaders in the seafood industry, on 9 October. Winners of this year’s MSC UK awards will share their perspectives on achievements in sustainable seafood and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Jeremy Langley, Aquaculture & Fisheries Manager at Waitrose, explains the retailer’s vision for responsibly sourced seafood and the challenges Waitrose faces in reaching its commitment to independently certify of all its fish and seafood by 2017.

Peter Hajipieris, Director for Corporate Social Responsibility at Iglo Foods, on its close ties with MSC and the enduring appeal of its Captain Birds Eye brand.

Tommi Miers, founder of Wahaca, shares her ideas on the challenges of providing choices to consumers in a market where diversity of seafood species is sometimes limited.

The first of our exclusive interviews with people that provide seafood for our supermarkets, restaurants, hospitals and schools, will be published on 9 October. Natalie Phillips, Category Manager Fish & Seafood at catering suppliers Brakes, will talk about the progress made with switching customers to different species, such as from haddock to pollock.
