The Marine Stewardship Council’s (MSC) Fish & Kids project was recognised at the prestigious Green Awards last night in London.
Fish & Kids is an educational project that aims to help schools in England to serve sustainable, Marine Stewardship Council certified (and eco-labelled) seafood. Over 125,000 children are already being offered sustainable seafood as part of their school lunch menu thanks to the project and are also being taught about the issues surrounding sustainable fishing through an extensive schools pack and website; http://www.fishandkids.org/. Fish & Kids also promotes sustainable seafood products by working with companies in the foodservice industry such as Brakes to arrange supply of the MSC-labelled products to school kitchens.
What the MSC says
Laura Stewart, project manager for the MSC says: “This is a fantastic achievement and really endorses what Fish & Kids is all about. From its launch in Surrey earlier this year, Fish & Kids has gone from strength to strength with 23,000 Tower Hamlets pupils joining the scheme this month and thousands more due across the country in the new year.”
Laura continues: “Our key focus in this project has been our commitment to stakeholders and communicating the Fish & Kids message in a clear, effective way. I think that we have shown that, however big an environmental challenge is, taking part in doing something about it can still be fun.”
About the Green Awards
The Green Awards were set up to recognise and reward outstanding creative work that communicates the importance of sustainability, CSR and ethical best practise. In awarding the Best Direct Mail Business to Business award to Fish & Kids, the judges praised the project saying they: “loved the way this entry perfectly targeted its audience.”
