The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has launched a "Cook like an #OceanHero" competition, in partnership with Loaf, a new interactive cooking app.
From Monday 8 February 2016, a new MSC recipe will be available on Loaf each week, with information about why sustainable seafood matters. The first recipe is an MSC certified Prawn & Sweet Potato Korma.
Aspiring and accomplished cooks alike can win a weekly shop* by making this recipe or any MSC certified fish dish, and uploading a picture Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and using the hashtag #OceanHero.
The competition which is open to residents in the US, Australia, Canada and the UK, will run for four weeks, with one prize a week.
Looking for the blue MSC label is an easy way for shoppers to show they care about our oceans. The label can be found on about 20,000 products around the world – in-store, online and in restaurants. For a full list of MSC labelled products on sale in your country take a look at the MSC Product Finder.
MSC labelled products can be traced back to fisheries that have been independently certified as sustainable. These fisheries ensure that the fish populations and the ecosystems upon which they depend, remain healthy and productive.
Sarah Bladen, MSC Global Communications & Marketing Director said: “The MSC’s vision is for oceans to be teeming with life – today, tomorrow and for generations to come. By working with Loaf, we hope to get more home cooks enjoying MSC labelled seafood. Loaf now makes it easy for food lovers who can also add a new sustainable fish dish to their repertoire.”
Heralded as one of the breakthrough apps of 2015**, Loaf has been credited with changing the way people cook. The innovative app, allows users to share their cooking experience with food lovers around the world. Its interactive cooking experience takes users step-by-step through an animated guide, while helping people track and share what they have made.
Han-Son Lee, CEO of Loaf said “We're delighted to be working with the MSC to help people understand the importance of sustainable fishing and create dishes that not only taste great but also ensure a healthier future for our oceans.”
The campaign begins on 8 February.
