We know that orange roughy is a species for which many people are concerned.
Orange roughy has been subject to severe overfishing in the past. We want to see the health of our oceans improve. However, we can only do this if we are able to recognise and reward those fisheries when they have. If the Australia Orange Roughy Eastern Zone Trawl fishery is successful in demonstrating they have met the MSC’s high standards, I encourage you to celebrate their transformation into a sustainable fishery. This would be a huge win for our oceans. By supporting certified sustainable fisheries, you will help encourage other fisheries to improve as well.
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international, scientific not for profit organisation dedicated to tackling overfishing and marine habitat destruction by driving the fishing and seafood industry towards sustainability.

As a standard-setter, the MSC remains independent and impartial during any fishery assessment process. Fisheries are assessed by accredited independent certifiers and not by the MSC. This ensures independence, impartiality, credibility and rigour.
Please be assured that only fisheries which ensure the long-term sustainability of fish stocks, minimise impacts on marine ecosystems, and are well-managed, achieve MSC certification.
The simple and easy way to support the efforts made by certified sustainable fisheries is by choosing the MSC blue fish tick when you shop.
