Research interests
Productivity analysis of marine related sectors, policy impact evaluation techniques, seafood value chain analysis.
Andreas joined the MSC's Science & Standards department as a senior economist in October 2023. His main objective is to strengthen MSC’s research capacity in economic analyses of fisheries and seafood supply chains and develop MSC’s research program in these areas. His current work focuses on the analysis and forecasting of time series data related to the number of MSC certificate holders, and product volumes and turnover.
Andreas's principal research interests lie in the broad areas of seafood value chains and quality assurance, marine resource economics, and sustainable blue economies. To date, his research has focused on the assessment of the socio-economic impact of aquaculture and capture fisheries on national economies by using macroeconomic data and input-output modelling techniques. Other research activities include the quantification of the environmental impacts of seafood and land-based agri-food value chains, and benchmark analyses of the financial performance of Atlantic ports.
Andreas has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Teagasc (Ireland’s Agriculture and Food Development Authority) on the interdisciplinary FARM_ECOS project (Farm_Ecos). His research focused on the ex-ante evaluation of economic cost and ecological benefits of biodiversity-enhancing measures by building simulation and econometric models.
