During their Ecology Action and Shopping Week from October 1-7, 2012, the Argentine Consumers Union conducted a multifaceted campaign on sustainable seafood, "I Support Sustainable Seafood" (Yo Consumo Sostenible), which highlighted the issue generally as well as provided information on the MSC program and ecolabel. The goal was to educate consumers in Argentina about the need to seek out and purchase sustainable seafood, and to provide tips about how to go about doing so. MSC certified fisheries in Argentina were featured and consumers were advised to seek out the MSC ecolabel in fish shops, supermarkets, and restaurants – and if they don’t see the ecolabel – to ask businesses why they aren’t carrying MSC labeled products.
The campaign included a video spot, flyers, educational guide, on-street promotion, social media, press outreach, and other efforts. The Argentine Consumers Union received a grant from the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation to produce the campaign. The MSC is grateful to both organizations for their efforts to raise consumer awareness about sustainable seafood in Argentina.
